Japanese steer hides (mature cattle) are tanned twice with full tannins by Japanese tanners, then richly oiled and waxed to create this heavy leather.
Due to its thickness, it takes 1.5 times longer than the normal tanning process. Therefore, when the leather is polished, the wax that has soaked into the leather is brought out, and you can immediately enjoy the transformation to a "deep, jewel-like glossy color."
The original leather surface will have a smoky feel, and the leather surface will naturally become brighter over time.
